Cupping Therapy
Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine where the therapist applies special cups on your skin for a certain amount time, depending on the situation, to create suction. Cupping can be used to treat someone with pain, inflammation, it promotes blood flow, relaxation and well-being. Suprisingly, the best part is it serves also as a type of deep tissue massage. The cups are made usually with glass, bamboo, earthenware, and silicone which shouldn’t irritate the skin as much.
Cupping therapy seems to be the talk of the town but it is not a new practice. It dates back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures. During the cupping sessions, the therapist will put a flammable substance in a cup and set it on fire. When the fire goes out, they would put the cup upside down on your skin and as the air inside the cup cools down, it creates a vacuum. This causes your skin to get super red as your blood vessels expand. The cup is generally left in place for a while to get better results.
Most patients worry about the mark that cupping may leave on their skin. After a treatment of cupping therapy, it is advised to apply antibiotic ointment and bandage to prevent infection and help your skin get back to normal again.
Afterward, you may get an antibiotic ointment and bandage to prevent infection. Your skin should look normal again within 10 days.
